AUS vs SA: Match Preview
Australia, who were outplayed in the first ODI, will be aiming to make a comeback, as they hate losing series at home. So far in all the matches the hosts have played, skipper Mitchell Marsh has always chosen to field first. While he came on top in the T20 series, in the first ODI, his chasing option backfired badly. On a sluggish surface in Cairns, the hosts' batters had no answer to Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj. It remains to be seen if Marsh again opts to field first.

Batting has looked a bit iffy for Australia. While in the T20 series, Tim David & Glenn Maxwell bailed them out, in the first ODI, only Marsh played well. Josh Inglis has so far struggled in the series, with not even one double-digit figure scored in three innings (two T20Is & one ODI). Apart from the keeper-batter, even Travis Head has struggled with timing. Batting needs to click if Australia aims to level the series.
On the other hand, South Africa's batting clicked in the first ODI, with senior players Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma & Maharaj performing well. Even Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi bowled well in tandem and bundled out Australia. Brevis failed in his debut ODI match; however, the Proteas are set to persist with him in the two ODIs, owing to the sizzling form he showed in the T20 series.
