Jor Rot, the former England skipper, scored his eighth Test ton at Lord's and his 11th Test ton against India. He resumed his innings on 99 and got to his landmark in the very first delivery of the day.

Root edged one through the slips cordon to get to his eighth hundred at the venue and his 11th Test ton against India. Root equalled Steve Smith as the two batters now have 11 Test centuries each against India.

Joe Root has scored the most Test runs against India. Post his knock of 104 runs off 199 balls at Lord's, he now has 3054 runs against the Indian team. He averages 58.73 and now has 11 centuries and 12 fifties. Apart from his 11 centuries, he also has a double-century against India that he scored in Chennai in 2021.

Root Shatters Records At Lord's

Compared to Joe Root, Steve Smith has 2356 runs against India in 24 Test matches at an average of 58.90 with 11 hundreds and five fifties. His best against India is 192 that he scored at the MCG in 2014.

Root has also surpassed the likes of Steve Smith, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson in the list of most Test centuries among the Fab 4. Root now has 37 centuries, Smith 36, Williamson 33 and Kohli retired from Test cricket with 30 centuries to his name. Root has scored a staggering 20 Test centuries since the start of 2020.

Kohli retired from Test cricket just ahead of the Test series against England that became a big talking point. He announced his Test retirement on June 12, following Rohit Sharma's Test retirement on June 7.

Bumrah Dismiss Root, Stokes On Day 2

Meanwhile, India have drawn first blood on day two, taking the big wickets of Ben Stokes and Joe Root. Both were dismissed by Bumrah, who toiled more than 15 overs to get his first wicket on Day 1, that of Harry Brook. Root was dismissed for 104 runs off 199 balls, while Stokes on 44 runs off 110 balls. Bumrah also dismissed Chris Woakes for a first-ball duck.
