Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a horrendous Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season so far, winning just two games from nine matches played so far. CSK is almost out of the playoffs race in the ongoing season. They are placed last on the points table and need to win all their five matches and hope for other results to go their way if they are make it to the last four stages. When it comes to the Yellow brigade, there is a notion that MS Dhoni takes all the decisions. However, Suresh Raina has revealed that the CSK captain does not control everything behind the scenes.
Since Dhoni has been with the franchise for 18 years, there is a popular belief that he takes all the decisions - right from players he wants to strategies. Raina stated that while the wicketkeeper batter may offer suggestions, he's not behind every decision within the team.

“They always say MS Dhoni makes the final call. But to be very honest, I never attended any of the auctions. I was never a part of those discussions. I always talked about the players who were retained,” Raina said.

Suresh Raina slams CSK owners for auction blunder
Since the start of IPL 2025 season, CSK's squad selection has been under the scanner. Known for playing with 'Dad's Army', this time the Yelllow brigade's experienced players failed to deliver the goods. Even bringing the younger crop of players like Dewald Brevis, Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed did not change the result.
CSK's latest defeat against SRH has sparked controversy around the auction choices. Raina did not hold back and took a dig at the CSK owners for their auction blunders, rather then put all blame on MS Dhoni.
“Kashi sir – I think he has been handling the administration for almost 30 to 40 years now. And Rupa Ma’am is managing all the cricket administration – buying the players, maintaining the core group. But everyone knows that the players bought this time weren’t selected properly,” he said.
CSK are placed last on the IPL 2025 points table, with four points. With only five matches left their dream of winning the sixth IPL title is slowly going to smoke.
