Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been named in the list of 50 probables for the Bengal state team. The list was released on Saturday by CAB secretary Naresh Ojha.
Shami, who was last seen in India colours during the title-winning Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, wasn’t picked for the England tour due to fitness concerns. He struggled to bowl consistent spells during IPL 2025 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Currently, he’s training in the nets for a potential comeback and has also launched his own YouTube channel, where he reviews the ongoing India tour of England 2025.

Shami features in Bengal’s 50-probable list for the 2025–26 domestic season, alongside Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is currently part of the Indian squad in England but is yet to get a game, with two Tests still left in the series. Given his experience, Shami is expected to make the final cut. He also featured in a few matches for Bengal last season during his recovery phase before rejoining the national setup.

Karun Returns to Karnataka After Vidarbha Stint
Meanwhile, Karun Nair returns to his home state after two productive seasons with Vidarbha a stint that helped him earn a recall to the Indian Test team. He’s currently batting at No. 3 but has had a below-par series so far, averaging just 21.83 across six innings without a single fifty. According to a Cricbuzz report, his return to Karnataka is driven purely by commitment.

Karun finds himself under pressure due to his lean run. Initially set to bat at No. 5 when Sai Sudharsan debuted at No. 3, he was soon promoted to his preferred position. But his outings have mostly followed the same script: solid starts without conversion.

While many experts have called for him to be dropped for the 4th Test, reports suggest he may get one final opportunity. Head coach Gautam Gambhir reportedly doesn't want to disrupt the team further amid the ongoing injury crisis, which has already led to Anshul Kamboj being added to the squad.
